Foster Parent keeps orphan and poor children get education

Time passed so quickly seven years have passed since I managed A Junior High School, a free school for children of 12-18 years old. The opening of the school has helped children who could not gain access to education due to economic problem. During that time our school has graduated more than 100 students.

From my observations most graduates can not continue their education to a higher level due to high cost of education. I found the cheapest tuition fee is about 15 $/month. The average cost needed by children in school (G10) about 60 $/month with details to pay for tuition, transportation, purchase of stationery, bags, shoes, uniforms, practice and unexpected costs.

What about the children coming from very low income family or orphans? Can they attend school and be equal with others? Unfortunately they could not. In general after they graduate they work as porters in the market, be home servant, and for girls get early marriage. Their parent believes when their daughter get married soon they do not have any responsibility to feed or to buy anything. Their daughter is not their responsibility anymore. Unfortunately, as the children with only 12 to 13 years of age when they get married, they are not ready mentally and physically, and eventually many of these children are young divorced.

From my observation most of girl graduates end up working in swallow industry. They work every day from 07.00 am – 04.00 pm, with wage of 1 $/day. While boys graduate work as porter in the market helping people to carry their stuff bought. What a gloomy future to me.

To help children get education in 2012, I opened Diva Tunas Bangsa Vocational School with the 27 registered (now they are in the XI grade). As we don’t have class (the building) yet, we borrow unused building where children can study. The learning process can be delivered better when we received table and chair from Dutch friends. Those chairs and tables are useful.

We have more than 15 teachers and most of them work as volunteer. In the new school year of 2013/2014 as many as 65 (grade X) students have registered and will continue to grow ahead when the learning begins. Most of them are children children coming from poor family and some of them are orphans. In this academic year I anticipate approximately 100 students will attend.

In order those less fortunate children continue their education I am looking for any one to be a foster parent of them. The financial assistance could be in term of partial or whole one. You may also help them by providing of books, stationery, shoes, bags, or uniforms.

List of children need financial assistance and its breakdown.
